He is there for me
You know I will always be there to protect you. And whatever comes, if it's something we could do, then it's something you could do.Faye (Finding Paradise)
Recently, thanks to a conversation with my therapist (I'm glad I have her), I discovered that something that might seem strange at first is actually quite normal. There are times when I just don't have the courage to do certain things, I'm even too scared to go to the supermarket. Something that helps me to overcome this is to delegate these tasks to my 'inner parent', who cares about my wellbeing and wants to protect me from things I'm afraid of. Most of the time I can just ask for help and he tells me to relax, step back and let him do it for me. Then "I" get the courage I need because he is in the front. Note that this isn't about multiple personalities, it's about visualising a set of skills.
This made me think: I created him for a purpose and he is for me what people call an imaginary friend. So I wondered if it would be possible to give "inner people" qualities and abilities that would help me get in touch with myself. Of course this is not going to happen overnight, but it is something I can work with.
I am not going to tell people about it because it is not necessary and it does not deserve to be made fun of. However, I am blogging about it because I will never associate this blog with my IRL self and if you can relate to any of this, I hope it gives you courage.
